Here I am, looking at my empty, blue to the end dashboard for the first time. “What is this?” “How does this work?” “How do I find people?” These are some of the many questions crossing my confused mind at the moment. But wait, there’s this thing called Directory, I have to check that out.
Great! Wow, look at all these popular people featured here. These must be the best of the Tumblr blogs and I think it’d be a good idea to follow some of the ones on the Photography section but wait… damn! These people are so good, very inspiring indeed. It’s gonna be hard to stand out from the rest, oh well… I think I’m not gonna be posting many things here anyways… Look, funny name, “Photographist”. Is that even a word? “
That’s how this person became the very first one I followed and really looked up to. Then, seven months later, in November, he started following me. Saying I was excited would be an understatement. I even remember the first time he replied to one of my posts, a painting I made back in the day.
He needs no further introduction because I know most of you, if not all, know him very well. He’s Christian Villacillo, a talented artist whose incredible work has made him gain a large audience that praises the beauty he makes in all its forms.
But I’m not here to talk about the evident. I’m here to talk about Chris, the guy behind the artist, a person he allowed me to get to know a little better ever since we were just two strangers. You know, Chris doesn’t talk much, but he listens, and he does that very well. He taught me that silence can be heard as loud as spoken words. He showed me that friendship can be found in the most unexpected places along with support and appreciation, that you can have a favorite tree, that Kristen Wiig is absolutely hilarious, and that you can love the smell of ink. He also taught me how to sign a print.
For all these things and more, not only do I consider him a great artist, but a dear friend.
Tonight, it’s snowing on my desk. Tonight, it’s Canada cold in Puebla. Tonight, your prints arrived in their new home…
Thanks for everything, my good friend!
All the best!
